Four Spiders score in double figures to take down Fordham, 82-70

Kendall Anthony and ShawnDre’ Jones combine for 38 points in the win against Fordham Saturday night, improving the Spiders’ overall record to 17-8 and tying for third in the Atlantic 10 (7-3).

Kendall Anthony posted his fourth consecutive twenty-point game against the Fordham Rams Saturday night (24 PTS, 6-14 FG, 2-8 3FG, 10-10 FT) and helped the Richmond Spiders keep pace in the Atlantic-10 heading into the final stretch of the regular season. While Fordham touts the conference’s leading scorer in John Severe (19.1), they mustered only two players in double figures while Richmond saw four of their own get into double-digit scoring for the second straight game.

ShawnDre’ Jones scored a career high fourteen points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3FG, 2-2 FT) and continues to play big time minutes in the place of Cedrick Lindsay. Trey Davis scored eleven points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Deion Taylor notched thirteen points of his own. The Spiders committed only seven turnovers and shot nearly 52% from the field, including 23 points off of fourteen Rams’ miscues.

With Saturday’s third consecutive win, and second win over Fordham this season, the Richmond Spiders continue to hold their ground in the A-10 despite losing key senior Derrick Williams and leading scorer Cedrick Lindsay. The Spiders are currently tied for third in the conference with St. Joe’s and trail VCU (20-6, 8-3) by just half a game in the standings.

Looking forward

The Spiders will host George Washington (19-6, 7-4) on Tuesday night and look to extend their three-game winning streak to keep pace with St. Louis and VCU atop the A-10 race. This will be the only matchup this season between the Spiders and Colonials. Tipoff is at 7:00PM, and fans in the Richmond area can watch on the NBC Sports Network.
