Flying Squirrels sell-out season opener

The Flying Squirrels have announced that individual tickets for tomorrow evening’s home opener have sold out. Only select tickets remain for the Dale Murphy Meet & Greet that will be held tomorrow evening at the stadium.

Individual tickets for tomorrow’s Flying Squirrels home opener at the Diamond have sold out. The team sold out their 2011 home opener on April 4th, the day before the start of last season.

“The excitement and anticipation for this season is pretty remarkable. I think it says a lot about Richmond and why this market is so special because this is not the case with most teams going into the season,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell.

The club has only 50 tickets remaining for the Dale Murphy Meet & Greet in the PFG Picnic Zone. The former Atlanta Braves outfielder will sign pre-game autographs and be available for an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner. Tickets are $28 and include a Diamond Club ticket.

Late last month, the Flying Squirrels unveiled a mock design of a new stadium to replace the aging Diamond. The Mayor also included funds to help fund construction of a new stadium, estimated to total approximately $50 million. No specific plans or timetables have been given as to when construction of a new stadium will begin.

The Flying Squirrels play the Altoona Curve on Thursday, April 12th at 6:35pm. Fireworks will follow the game.
