Flying Squirrels return for Reggy, fireworks, and the shortest player in pro baseball

The Flying Squirrels pick up again at home against the New Britain Rock Cats after a day off, still looking to get back on track. This week is really about the promotions anyway: fireworks TWICE, Reggy the Purple Party Dude, free beach balls, BOGO Kraft Singles Tuesday, and NASCAR pace cars.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels (28-29) are in a slump, and losing 2 out of 3 at Trenton probably didn’t change much for’em. Maybe they just needed a good day off to relax, maybe they just need a visit from the last-in-the-league Rock Cats (15-41). And if they can’t beat the Rock Cats, well, at least you’ve scored a free beach ball and get to see some fireworks.

This could be interesting to see: since their last visit to Richmond, the Rock Cats have received Chris Cates, who at 5’3” is the shortest player in professional baseball. He’s apparently quite the defensive player:

“He makes plays that you’re just like, ‘Oh dang,'” said pitcher David Bromberg, a teammate for three years. “I mean, his arm, his range – you see him make plays that big-leaguers make a lot, but you see him make some plays that I don’t even think a big-league shortstop [could make].”
