First time on Belle Isle

Do you remember your first time on Belle?

I’m always surprised when talking with folks to hear that they’ve never been to Belle Isle. I’m equally surprised every time I go how much pleasure I get just exploring and watching.

Brad Morrison of Richmond Outside talks about his first time on Belle Isle entitled, “A lost boy’s first day“. Also check out our photo set from last year.

The first thing I saw, tucked away just left of the bridge, like a stranger hiding behind a door, was a creepy, rusted-out structure that looked like a bandstand for the undead. Placards reached up from the ground telling the grim history of the island. Canoes and kayaks slalomed through white water that looked to be more boulder than river.
