Cul-de-Sac 5K neighborhood race series kicks off 2015 season this evening

Join your neighbors on a casual but competitive 3.1 mile run through Wyndham July 6th, 13th, and 20th.

A long-running summer running tradition, the Cul-de-Sac 5K series, kicks off for its 2015 season this evening, July 6th, along with the next two Mondays; 13th, and 20th.

The series ters the brainchild of runner Steve Lerner, who liked the idea of having an evening race in the summer where runners could compete on the same course each week. This race series has become one of the most popular of the Richmond Road Runners (RRRC)’ Grand Prix events.

All races begin at 7:00 PM at Shady Grove Elementary School and take place on a mostly flat-fast loop on the neighborhood streets of Wyndham, with 3 cul-de-sacs to encounter. Water stops will be available at the 1 and 2.5 mile markers, respectively. The race is run on open roads monitored by course marshals and traffic controlled by Henrico County Police. No dogs or strollers are allowed on the course.

Registration is now closed for the July 6th event, but the next two races can be pre-registered for online after the conclusion of tonight’s event.

Online entry fee for a single race is $12; $30 for all three for RRRC members. For non-members, a single race is $15 plus service fees; $40 for all three races plus service fees.

For day of registration, a single race is $15; $40 for all three races. Non members will pay $20 for a single race the day of; all three races can be run for $50.

The race is chip-timed and participants will be required to use the same bib for all three races. The lost bib fee is $5.

On-site registration and bib pick up will start at 5:30 PM each race day.

Ribbons will be presented to the top three males and females in each age group starting at 1-9 and every 5 years thereafter up to 80. Prizes will be provided by 3 Sports for top winners each night and for the top male and female winners of the series. There will also be a special prize for all that complete all three races.

Sports drinks, water and snacks will be provided after each race. Pizza will be served after the last race of the series.

There is limited parking available at Shady Grove Elementary (located at 12200 Wyndham Lake Drive), as well as on-street parking.
