CarMax clips ties with LA Clippers after owner’s racist remarks

The local company is the first to formally end ties with the NBA team after the owner reportedly made racist remarks.

Goochland-based CarMax today severed its nine-year advertising relationship with the Los Angeles Clippers in response to the racist remarks the team’s owner, Donald Sterling, allegedly made.

Here’s the CarMax statement:

“CarMax finds the statements attributed to the Clippers’ owner completely unacceptable. These views directly conflict with CarMax’s culture of respect for all individuals. While we have been a proud Clippers sponsor for nine years and support the team, fans and community, these statements necessitate that CarMax end its sponsorship.”

Earlier this week in protest, the Clippers dumped their shooting shirts–with Clippers’ logos–at half court and warmed up wearing plain red T-shirts.
