ACC & CAA preview, week 14

The Hokies vs. Clemson in the ACC Championship Game! You know what this means? It’s almost bowl season, I can’t even wait.

Virginia Tech vs. Clemson

Guys. Here we are, conference championship week, and look who’s in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game? It is not the Hoos, I’ll tell you that much! My very own, much-beloved Hokies have put together a scrappy seven-game win streak (well that win over UVA wasn’t so scrappy to reach The (kinda) Big Game. They’ll face Clemson, the only team that beat them during the regular season, and be favored by about a touchdown. The winner of this game will go on, most likely, to face a barely-ranked team from the Big East.

Hooray.

I can still remember how I felt after the 2005 championship game, when a severely over-performing Florida State team upset the #5 ranked Hokies (oh, look at that VT is ranked #5 in the current BCS standings). Let’s not repeat that, OK? And, honestly, if Virginia Tech plays like it did against UVA there are very few teams in the nation that they couldn’t beat. Hokies by a touchdown.

Old Dominion vs. Georgia Southern

First, it should be illegal for Alabama to play Georgia Southern in their last regular season game. Second, Georgia Southern is a three seed. Sooooooo, while it’s been a good run for the Monarchs I just can’t see them making it to the next round of the playoffs. Augh.

JMU vs. North Dakota State

DUUUUKES. Well, if ODU has a hard row to hoe, JMU has, ummmm, a really hard row to hoe? I dunno. It doesn’t look good for the the Dukes, though. It takes so much out of a team to travel, now imagine traveling to North Dakota. Yikes. Barring a crazywild thing, the Bison win this one. No, seriously, that is their mascot.
