ACC & CAA preview, week 13

It’s the first week of the FCS playoffs *and* it’s VT/UVA rivalry week. Where has the football season gone!?

Guys! I missed last week’s football preview because I was DEATHLY ILL as the result of going to a football game! Seems like a reasonable, if not apropos, excuse? The football season is winding down, and this week features the final regular season game for the Hokies and the Hoos (against each other) and the first round of the FCS playoffs.

Virginia Tech vs. Virginia

Well, I don’t think I’ve seen anything sloppier than what lurched to a finish in the UVA/FSU game last week. There were penalties, timeouts, and at one point the Wahoos ran off the field only to be brought back. But, the Cavaliers won and are now, theoretically, on a roll.

Make no mistake Hokie faithful, this is the first time in almost a decade that the Wahoos have a chance to win the Commonwealth Cup (which has been firmly in possession of Virginia Tech for over 2,000 days). Rocco has settled down and stopped thrown interceptions (he’s only thrown two since week four), and UVA keeps finding ways to win.

I am extremely nervous about this game. The Hokies have put together a total of one complete game this year (against Georgia Tech). If they don’t play well in all phases they will lose, and I will cry. But, let’s be honest, as nervous as it makes me it’s nice for this game to finally mean something.

Since the Hokies have performed well in big games away from home this year, I’m picking Tech! GO HOKIES!

JMU vs. E. Kentucky

I have no idea about this game, guys. But, I refuse to pick a team that plays mostly teams from Tennessee to beat a team in the CAA. JMU has won the last couple, so let’s go with the Dukes.

Old Dominion vs. Norkfolk State

BAM, ODU in the playoffs only a couple of years after CREATING THEIR PROGRAM FROM NOTHING. This is a cross town rivalry game and the first round of the 2011 playoffs. Intense! Norfolk State is no joke and kept it close againt West Virginia (one of their two losses) for the first half. But too bad Trojans, or Spartans, or whatever, the Monarchs are here to dominate you.
