Today, Gov. McAuliffe announced the very first “RVA to DC” cycling event, set to be held on July 23rd and July 25th, 2016.

Better start training!

Proceeds from the ride will go towards statewide bike and pedestrian infrastructure and advocacy! Bet that makes Bike Walk RVA happy!

The ride will begin from Richmond and head north to Arlington on a 156-mile route from the state capital city to the boring old U.S. capital city. That’s pretty neat, actually.

More quotes from the press release!

“RVA to DC will showcase some of the best outdoor adventure highlights and historic sites in the Commonwealth,” said Rita McClenny, President and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “Virginia has so much to offer visitors, including culture, performing arts, great culinary experiences, and outdoor activities, and RVA to DC will be another great addition for visitors.”

“Events like RVA to DC are right in line with Sports Backers’ mission to build a more active community,” said Jon Lugbill, Executive Director of Sports Backers. “This ride will also have the added incentive of allowing participants to bike for their right towards safe and accessible bike infrastructure throughout the Commonwealth.”

Registration is live and includes course routing, baggage transportation (two bags!), camping in F’burg, and a bunch of other stuff, including food and hydration, which seems like it would be important.
