Woman, two children rescued from rocks near Belle Isle on Saturday
We’re still at, “lifejacket stage” and will be there through Wednesday.
According to fire crews, a call came in just after 3 p.m. Saturday along Belle Isle as a woman and her two children became stranded on the rocks and were unable to make it back to the shore.
Thanks to the efforts of rescue crews, they were safely extracted from the rocks and brought to dry land. No one was injured in the rescue and it was marked as under control around 4:30 p.m.
Saturday’s rescue serves as a warning to river goers to avoid the James River as water levels continue to rise at an accelerated pace, at a rate of six inches per hour at times.
The river was a tricky one this weekend. Going across the Nickel Bridge around 9:30 AM on Saturday it looked a little high but nothing dramatic. When I went back across at 4 PM it was, woah the river is high.

The chart below is from Saturday and you can really see how fast the river rose. Remember anything over five feet means a life jacket is required and anything over nine feet means a permit is needed to be on the river.
