Weatherization kit giveaway for seniors on Friday

You must be a city resident to receive the free kit and must bring proof of residency.

The Press Release has all the details below on the city’s annual weatherization giveaway. As it gets colder it’s important to get your house ready. If you have an elderly neighbor that could benefit from this program let them know or even better give them a hand.

City Annual Weatherization Kit Giveaway this Friday

RICHMOND, VA – On Halloween, city of Richmond seniors are invited to Richmond’s annual Senior Weatherization Kit Giveaway sponsored by the City’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU), Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Pleasants Hardware, 2024 West Broad Street.

DPU Director Bob Steidel says, “DPU is pleased to bring this annual event to our senior community. It is never too early to begin weatherizing your homes. Weatherization improves the comfort level in our homes, saves money on energy bills, and helps the environment.”

The city will be giving away up to 500 starter weatherization kits, one per person, to Richmond city seniors, on a first-come, first-served basis. These kits are designed to help city seniors get a head start on their home weatherization projects by providing such items as weather stripping for doors and windows, storm window film, draft stoppers for outlets, a door sweep, and a fluorescent light bulb.

Representatives from City’s Departments of Social Services, Project Homes, Feedmore, and Senior Connections will be on hand to distribute and provide information and resources on fuel assistance, in-home care for the elderly and local senior activities. Other giveaways and light refreshments will also be provided.
