Update #1 — June 3, 2014; 10:37 AM
VCU will hold a groundbreaking ceremony tonight at the site of the planned Markel Center at the Institute for Contemporary Art. The event will take place between 6:00 – 7:00 PM at 601 W. Broad Street (southwest corner of Broad and Belvidere). Valet parking will be available on Pine Street.
VCU has also installed a Construction Cam that overlooks the site of the future building. It will take a daily photo of construction efforts to turn into a time-lapse video that will debut after the building is completed in 2016.

VCU will break ground on the $35 million Institute for Contemporary Art building sometime in June. VCU anticipates that the ICA will open sometime in 2016.
The Richmond-based Markel Corporation has donated a generous gift to the project.1 To honor that gift, the VCU Board of Visitors approved naming the new building the Markel Center.
