Two dogs fatally shot by RPD after dogs lunged at officers
Incident occurred Tuesday night around 7:30 PM.
At approximately 7:53 p.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of McDonough Street for the report of two dogs attempting to bite an adult male.
Officers arrived and located the dogs which lunged at the police vehicles. Police then called for other vehicles to respond in an attempt to corral the dogs until Animal Control could arrive.
When an adult male and a female child appeared near the scene, the dogs turned towards them. Officers then got out of the car. The dogs turned and lunged at officers. In response, one of the officers “discharged a service weapon and struck the dogs,” according to authorities.
The dogs then retreated to a nearby house.
Animal Control took the dogs. By the time they arrived, one dog had already died and the other died soon afterwards.
