Take a guided slave trail tour
Saturday, February 22nd learn about Shockoe Bottom’s role in the slave trade.
To commemorate Black History Month, the League of Women Voters of the Richmond Metropolitan Area are inviting Richmond residents to discover the history of the slave trade and the role that Shockoe Bottom played.
On Saturday, February 22, at 10:45 AM folks will meet at the site of Lumpkin’s jail to take part in a Guided tour of the slave trail will be by Del. Delores McQuinn or other member of the Slave Trail Commission. The tour will remain on this side of the river and will visit the site of Lumpkin’s Jail, hallowed burial grounds, Slavery Reconciliation Statue, and Henry Box Brown Plaza.
There is no charge for the tour but donations to the Richmond Slave Trail Commission are welcome. To take part meet in the VCU parking lot along west side of the Main Street Station train shed. Don’t park in the Department of Economic & Community Development lot.
After the tour the plan is to meet at Bottom’s Up for lunch. Attendees are responsible for their own lunch costs.
