Sen. Creigh Deeds released from hospital

The state senator was discharged from the UVA Medical Center Friday morning.

Senator Creigh Deeds has been released from the hospital this morning, according to the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Deeds suffered multiple stab wounds at his home on Tuesday morning in what investigators believe was a failed murder-suicide involving his son, Austin, who died from a gunshot wound at the scene (see below).

The Washington Post now reports that Western State Hospital did have an available bed for Creigh Deeds’ son, but were not asked to accommodate him. This contradicts an earlier report that the hospital refused Austin Deeds admittance the day before a violent and deadly altercation at the Deeds residence in Bath County.

Creigh Deeds’ condition has been upgraded to good at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

The Washington Post reports that Austin “Gus” Deeds, son of state senator Creigh Deeds, underwent a psychiatric evaluation the day before yesterday’s apparent murder-suicide, but wasn’t admitted to a hospital due to the lack of available beds.

Austin was found fatally shot yesterday morning inside the Deeds residence in Bath County. Creigh Deeds sustained multiple stab wounds and is in fair condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center (see below).

Police believe it was an attempted murder-suicide.

Update #3 — November 19, 2013; 3:59 PM

Reports indicate that Creigh Deeds’s condition has been upgraded to fair after sustaining stab wounds to his head and torso. Deeds’s son, Gus, was found fatally shot inside the Deeds residence (see below).

Virginia State Police spokesperson Corrine Geller said that police are “looking into this as an attempted murder-suicide.”

Update #2 — November 19, 2013; 1:01 PM

Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) remains in critical condition after sustaining stab wounds to head and upper torso, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller. Deeds is under treatment at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Police responded to Deed’s home in Millboro at 7:25 AM this morning where they found Deeds seriously injured and his son, Gus, who died from a gunshot wound at the scene. The Police said they are not looking for other suspects.

Police will issue another statement today at 3:00 PM.

The RTD is reporting that Virginia Senator and former gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds has been critically wounded:

Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, is in critical condition after being stabbed in his home and his son Gus is dead from a gunshot wound, law enforcement sources told the Richmond Times-Dispatch this morning.
