Second Breakaway RVA hitting the road for a patriotic ride on June 30th

Ride with friends and strangers to a secret location. Enjoy the city of Richmond and fellowship of riders.

Breakaway RVA was born this year by seven Richmonders who saw bikes as much more than a mode of transport. Bikes and more importantly the humans on the bikes can help build a sense of community while having fun pedaling about the city, exploring new areas, and meeting new folks. The pictures you see are from the inaugural ride last month

To be a part of this fun you simply go to the Sign-up page for this month’s event. Select the ride that you want to be a part of and show up the day of the ride.

The ride on the 30th has five routes to pick from of varying lengths. You won’t know your destination until you get there so just go with the flow.

  • 6:30pm Fan District Route – 6 miles
  • 6:30pm Southside Route – 7 miles
  • 6:30pm Northside Route – 8 miles
  • 6:30pm East End Route – 7 miles
  • 7:15pm Central Richmond Route – 4 miles

Press Release:

Breakaway RVA Announces Second Free Monthly Bike Event June 30th

The Stars and Stripes take center stage with this patriotic-themed ride that will take riders to a special mid-point location for a program before ending at our secret final destination

Richmond, Va. – Following a successful inaugural ride in May in which over 100 riders participated, Breakaway RVA is pleased to announce its second free bike meetup on June 30th. Costumes and bike decorations are highly encouraged for this special patriotic-themed ride in celebration of Independence Day.

To participate, riders simply select one of five neighborhood routes, from which a route leader will guide the group on a leisurely ride to a mid-point location for a quick program and convergence with the other five groups. The peloton will then be guided towards our predetermined final destination for a surprise activity.

The end goal of each event is to bring together like-minded people, explore Richmond, and elevate the city’s biking scene. The inaugural event took riders to Jefferson Park, where lawn games, a stunning sunset with a view if Richmond’s skyline, and healthy snacks from Relay Foods and Health Warrior awaited participants.

Neighborhood starting point locations will be released the day of the event and registration will close at midnight the day before. Guests are asked to arrive at their designated starting point 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time, and are encouraged to equip themselves with a headlight, tail light, helmet, and water for what is sure to be a warm summer evening. Monthly routes and frequently asked questions are available on the social group’s website at http://www.breakawayrva.com.
