RVA Streets Alive! heads to Jackson Ward

Miss out on doing yoga, Zumba, and bicycling in the middle of the road last year? You’ll soon get another chance.

Runners, bicyclists, and even yogis will take to the streets this summer for the 2nd annual RVA Streets Alive! event which will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

“This event isn’t just about engaging people in physical activity for one day,” said Dr. Donald Stern, the City’s Health District Director. “It’s about connecting them to opportunities for ongoing physical activity so they can live a longer, healthier life.”

The annual event is put on by Sports Backers, the Mayor’s Healthy Richmond Campaign, and the Richmond City Health District. The event, which is free and open to the public, aims to promote healthy lifestyles by closing off roads to vehicles so people can partake in physical activities.

“We love the variety of free activities offered at RVA Streets Alive!,” said Jon Lugbill, executive director of Sports Backers. “With everything from jump roping and biking to volleyball and Zumba, it’s a great opportunity to discover a new, healthy passion.”

Last year’s inaugural event brought over 15,000 people and 70 vendors to the closed off a 2.5-mile loop spanning downtown and Manchester.

This year’s route will span sections of Northside and Jackson Ward. Mayor Dwight Jones: “This year we are keeping the momentum going and adding to the excitement and growth of the Downtown area while also highlighting our city’s Arts and Cultural District.”
