Richmond Police Department Community Walk

WHEN: 3:30 p.m. today, December 15, 2015

WHERE: Parking Lot Across from Police Headquarters, 200 W. Grace Street

BACKGROUND: Chief Alfred Durham will lead his Command Staff on a walk this afternoon through the Downtown Business Corridor along Broad, Grace and Marshall streets. During the walk, officers will speak with community members and business owners about safety concerns they may have and what they’d like to see more of from the Richmond Police Department.

Sector 413 Lt. Victor Greene noted that Theft from Motor Vehicles is a continuing cause for concern in the area, but overall property crime is down 12% and there has been a 29% reduction in violent crime.

“These significant reductions would not have been possible without the help of our citizens,” Lt. Greene said. “But we have more work to do, and together our police-community partnership can reduce these numbers even more.”

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted on a monthly basis by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.
