The Richmond Police helped make 2011 the city’s second least deadly year since 1961. It appears they’ve also been hitting the social media pavement.

According to the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Richmond Police Department is in the top five of police departments in two key statistics of social media.

Among municipal law enforcement agencies numbering between 500-999 sworn officers, the city’s police department has the second highest number of Twitter followers with 6,877. They trail only the 7,073 of Denver, Colorado.

When it comes to the most number of Facebook “likes,” the local police department is fourth with 6,154. The top police department is Omaha, Nebraska with 8,026, followed by Wichita, Kansas (7,622) and Tulsa, Oklahoma (6,510).
