Police Memorial vandalized

It happened sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

I would expect this to get a bunch of local coverage. We’ll update when the police issue a formal statement.

I can only presume this was directed more at the events elsewhere & not a city cops specifically. It does bother me on two levels. 1. any graffiti ends up being my tax dollars that pay for it (taxes are high enough & the city can’t afford to spends extra on things like this, when they’re struggling to cut the grass). 2. It’s Richmond. The mayor’s African American. So’s the chief of police. So is the majority of the cops & the majority of city hall. the last 2 folks that were shot by police were 2 people (most recently outside carytown last year) who were off kilter, shot at the cops 1st & the cops responded in self defense.
There certainly needs to be a discussion of what’s going on elsewhere, but graffiti is certainly not a productive way to go about it.

in hindsight, I could have worded my earlier comment a bit better, and shorter. But the synopsis is from what I’ve seen in RVA, the cops & the citizens generally have a good relationship. Hence the graffiti is a disappointing surprise.

Dino, I agree with you, Our RPD does an awesome job of staying in touch with the community and building relationships while doing a great job at fighting crime. This is not deserved and is extremely out of line. I hope they find the culprits.
