Police memorial on the move to Byrd Park

The only consistent visitor to the Coliseum is moving on.

A Richmond police memorial for officers who lost their lives in the line of duty is slated to receive a new home near the Virginia War Memorial Carillon at William Byrd Park.

Convinced that the memorial has not been properly cared for over the years and lacks adequate visibility, a retired Richmond police patrolman has led a campaign to relocate the memorial.

“This site provides all the standards that we established for a new location: visibility, accessibility, compatibility, especially for children and the elderly,” retired patrolman Glenwood Burley said in a news conference Tuesday,
