PHOTOS: Severe weekend storms wreak havoc around Richmond

Heavy rain, lightning, hail, and high winds resulted in over 43,000 people without power over the weekend.

A line of severe thunderstorms with heavy rains, high winds, and hail pummeled the area Saturday night, leaving many in the dark. Trees were reported down all around town, including the one pictured above on South Boulevard.

At the height of the storm, more then 43,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers were without power. By Monday morning, that number had dropped to just below 2,000. You can check current outages here.

The last remaining folks without power should be back in business by the end of the day Monday, the company says.

Besides downed trees and power lines, lightning also sparked a fire at the Wendy’s at 10170 Brook Road, near Virginia Center Commons Mall. Henrico Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames, and damage was confined to the roof.
