One dead, another injured in Grove Avenue accident Monday afternoon

Witnesses say the driver of a minivan was traveling 90 MPH before it crashed into another car and, ultimately, into the front porch of a home.

From CBS6:

Police are on the scene of a fatal accident at Grove and Commonwealth avenues, across from Mary Munford Elementary School.

Both vehicles involved were headed east on Grove Avenue when a minivan driver drove up on a Volkswagon, according to the reporter on scene. The minivan went airborne, jumped a curb, went through a fence and into a house on the eastbound side of Grove Avenue.

Witnesses said that the minivan was going at least 90 m.p.h. past a business on Grove Avenue just five minutes before the crash.

The minivan driver has life-threatening injuries. The female driver of the Volkswagon is reported dead.

The accident occurred Monday afternoon, just before 3:00 PM. Both directions of Grove Avenue were shut down for some time as a result. The deceased driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
