The Union Theological Seminary is proposing to build a high density development on the property at Brook and Westwood. A group of neighbors is working to get the word out. First meeting drew more than 100 neighbors and now a group of neighbors has started an online effort to in their own words, “The Save Westwood Blog is here to help Northside neighbors be informed, connect, and organize to act.”
The blog has the latest updates, email list you can sign up for here, and this summary of their concerns and the plan.

My wife and I love the Northside. This is our second home in the area. We were very upset to read about the plans for the end of our street. This neighborhood has come a long way since the original zoning for that tract was approved. It would be a travesty for Richmond if the plan was allowed to progress as planned. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help save our neighborhood.
This plan is sketchy and awful. That land is a resource for the community as soccer fields that children play on, adults play pick up on, the tennis courts are used by the community, there is a track, it is nice and an attractive part of Northside. Adding apartments would take all that away and add to traffic. Also, there was a short article on this in Style, it seemed a little shady how quickly this plan developed.
The people who have homes in this area should not be upset! Their neighborhood will soon be blessed with vibrant diversity which will enrich their lives. Shed your biases and embrace the future! Lucky you.
Henrietta please say you are joking. This community has diversity like no other area of town. We love and accept everyone, all races, religious backgrounds, single/married, straight/gay it doesnt matter. What does matter is that we DO NOT want a 438 horribly designed apartment complex with crappy development squished in a small green space. Let these building complexes be continued in Shockoe Bottom and short pump. We like small houses, duplexes and housing of the like. This doesnt fit here and the deal smells… our city is selling out to the grubby money hungry developers…
I agree that this property is a great community resource. If the community loves it so much, then the community should purchase the property and maintain it as a community resource.
How do we know the apartments will be bad for the neighborhood? Personally, I’m not afraid of apartments or renters.
