Mysterious black van closes Richmond streets

Richmonders in the Fan saw quite the enigmatic site: an out-of-place van traveling the wrong way down one-way streets. On why such a bizarre event may be an indication of Richmond’s future.

Earlier this afternoon sections of Main Street, Franklin Street, and Cary Street in the Fan were blocked off by city police. A black van operated by the Carey company, a global-wide chauffeur service, meandered through the blocked off passages. The large breadth of blocked off roadways made many believe that a high-standing political figure or celebrity was traveling through the area. Reports indicate, however, that it was a high official of the Union Cycliste Internationale (International Cycling Union) touring the proposed route of the 2015 UCI Road World Championship. Richmond is one of two potential cities that have bid to host the event (the other is a city in the middle eastern country of Oman).

  1. Oh, good! Another street-closing event in the Fan!

  2. Had I known this I would have gone outside and chased alongside waving a flag to make him/her/them feel at home.

Instead I just gawked out my window and went right back to work like a typical American fan.

I thought it was Steven Spielberg scouting locations for Lincoln.

They can’t see the streets without closing them?
