Arrest made for the murder and assault on Brandon Road

Two child under the age of 13 were assaulted and one was killed.

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with the homicide and assault of two juveniles on Thursday.

The suspect, who is not being identified because of his age, has been charged with murder and strangulation.

Detectives still ask anyone with any information about this crime to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip.

Around 6:30 last night police responded to two juveniles that had been assaulted. Both victims, male and female, were under 13. Early reports are that the boy was hit with an object trying to protect his sister. He died on the scene as a result of his injuries.

Initial reports last night the suspect was an adult white male with scraggly facial hair but later it was determined the victim had been threatened by the suspect who in fact was a teenage black male.

Richmond Police detectives have identified and located a juvenile teen male who is currently being medically evaluated in connection with last night’s homicide and assault on the Southside.

Warrants have also been obtained for the suspect’s arrest.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday, officers received a call for an assault in the 200 block of Brandon Road . Officers arrived on scene within minutes and found two juveniles under the age of 13 who had been assaulted. One victim died at the scene and the second was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Initially, detectives were given information that the suspect was an adult white male with scraggly facial hair, but later determined the victim had been threatened and intimidated by the suspect, who is a teenage black male.
