Minimum wage protest leads to 10 arrests

Protesters want the minimum wage increased to $15 a hour.

Around 2:20 PM yesterday, Thursday, September 4th,  a group of protesters gathered near a Burger King on the 2300 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. The protests, which were planned by labor organizers for about 150 cities nationwide throughout Thursday, are part of a campaign called “Fight for $15“. The goal is to increase the minimum wage for fast food workers to the point that their pay provides a livable wage.

At one point the protest moved from the sidewalk to Mechanicsville Turnpike.

Henrico Police stated in a press release that,

“Henrico Police became aware of the situation when a Henrico Officer drove by the protestors in front of the McDonalds around 12:30 PM. Several people were observed sitting in the roadway. A portion of Mechanicsville Turnpike was shut down, and warnings were given to the protestors.”

Thanks to Henrico Fire, Henrico Sheriff’s Department, Richmond Police, and Virginia State Police for their assistance.
The following have been charged with two (2) misdemeanors each, one (1) count of unlawful assembly and one (1) count of impeding the flow of traffic.

  1. WELL I SEE IT LIKE THIS. IF YOU WANT MORE MONEY THEN GO GET A DIFFERENT JOB. I GO TO THE MCDONALDS RIGHT THERE ON THE CORNER AND MY ORDER IS WRONG ALMOST EVERYTIME SO IF YOUR ASKING FOR MORE MONEY THEN ATLEAST PUT MORE EFFORT AND PRIDE INTO YOUR WORK. I HEAR PEOPLE USE THE EXCUSE THEY DONT HAVE AN EDUCATION AND THAT IS ONLY HALF THE BATTLE. I DONT HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA BUT I STILL LANDED A JOB MAKING GOOD MONEY DUE TO MY HARD WORK AND GREAT WORK ETHIC. I GUESS WHAT IM SAYING IS IF YOU PUT YOUR BEST EFFORT IN AND SHOW PRIDE IN YOUR WORK THEN IT MIGHT GET YOU FURTHER THAN JUST COMPLAINING ABOUT IT AND DOING A HORRIBLE JOB.

  2. OH AND I MEANT TO SAY IM NOT HATING ON ANYONE FOR WANTING MORE MONEY BUT YOU HAVE TO BE REALISTIC. IM A WAREHOUSE MANAGER AND I ONLY MAKE $ 12 A HOUR. I MANAGE A HALF A MILLION DOLLAR WAREHOUSE. SO IF YOU WANT 15 BUCKS TO MAKE BURGERS THEN YOU HAVE LOST YOUR MIND. I COULD UNDERSTAND 10 A HOUR BUT 15 IS CRAZY.

And that’s how the “job creators” keep all off our wages depressed, Chris. The fast food workers are not your enemies, the schmuck paying you twelve an hour to mind his $500,000 operation is.

  4. What these folks don’t realize is if fast food starts paying $15, then these won’t be the people working there anymore. Better qualified people will seek these jobs.

It’s neither of them, hocabsurdumst. It’s the union goobers who are hemorraging members and are looking for a new place to recruit. It’s a government that charges the highest corporate tax rate in the world so businesses have a hard time growing.

The guy who is NOT your enemy is a guy who owns a BK franchise and is employing people.

I support the strikers/protesters, but realize the robots will be taking over soon anyway.
