Man struck by moving car, in critical condition

Police are trying to figure out what happened on the Powhite Parkway late Monday night, as a man was struck by a car driven by his girlfriend.

Richmond Police are asking for any witnesses that were present when a pedestrian was hit by a car on the Powhite Parkway to contact detectives. At approximately 10pm on Monday, officers were called to the James River Bridge after a 26-year-old man was hit by a car driven by his girlfriend.

When Police arrived at the scene, the 24-year-old woman said that she and her boyfriend had been arguing while she drove. At one point, her boyfriend struck her several times. The young woman responded by stopping the car—a 1991, maroon two-door Oldsmobile Delta 88—halfway across the bridge in the emergency lane.

The man exited the car, she claimed, and when she began to drive away, he jumped in front of the car and was struck. He was hospitalized and is currently in critical condition.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicle on the side of the road to call Detective Mark Allen at (804) 646-0280. Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
