Man dies after jumping into canal
The incident began around 7:15 PM on Wednesday evening.
A man died Wednesday after jumping into the canal along Dock Street, Richmond police said.
Police were called about 7:15 p.m. to the 1900 block of Dock Street for a report of a mental subject yelling at passersby.
When an officer approached the man, he jumped into the canal and disappeared beneath the water, police said.
Police and the Richmond Fire Department’s water rescue team recovered the man’s body about 8 p.m.
