Locally-produced JFK documentary premieres next week
How did JFK’s legacy affect his presidential successors? The new documentary tackles that very topic.
The locally-produced John F. Kennedy documentary The Kennedy Half Century will premiere on Monday, November 4th at 9:00 PM on WCVE PBS Richmond and WHTJ PBS Charlottesville. WCVE and the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics1 co-produced the documentary, which is based on Larry Sabato’s2 new book of the same name. The documentary marks the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.
“We wanted this documentary to be different from a host of others Americans will see this fall, all of them tightly focused on President Kennedy’s assassination,” Larry Sabato said in a statement. “We want viewers to understand how a short but significant presidency like Kennedy’s can translate for other presidents’ campaigns and policy agendas. How did Kennedy’s successors use his achievements and post-assassination sainthood to help them accomplish their preferred ends?”
The documentary features interviews with Bob Schieffer, Ari Fleischer, and James Carville, among others. Later this month, the documentary will debut in national markets like New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, and Philadelphia.
