Gov. McDonnell and Mayor Jones to host celebration tomorrow

The public is encouraged to attend a celebration that will take place tomorrow morning in Richmond’s Downtown district. The event will be hosted by Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones, as well as other prominent individuals to celebrate Richmond winning it’s bid to host the 2015 UCI World Cycling Championship

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones will take part in a celebration commemorating Richmond’s selection to host the 2015 World Cycling Championships.

The event will take place at the James Center Plaza, at 901 E. Cary Street tomorrow, September 28 at 10 a.m.

The 2015 Road World Championships will take place September 19 through the 27, and will feature 12 unique races.

The World Road Championships were last held in America in 1986 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. American men and women have won 13 World Championship titles in both the road race and time trial, including road race titles by Greg LeMond in 1983 and 1989 and Lance Armstrong in 1993.

This year’s event was recently held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
