Good Morning, RVA: Whatever Wednesday
It’s not super, but it’s the only Wednesday we’ve got.
Good morning, RVA! It’s 52 °F and dropping–dropping so much that there’s even a chance of snow on Friday?? Monday highs are supposed to be in the 60s, so I think from now until then is winter’s last dying gasp.

And your 2016 primary winners are…Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump! Trump upped his delegate total to 285 (out of 1,237 needed to win), while Clinton holds 544 (out of 2,383 needed to win). The New York Times has a nice visual breakdown of who won what, and FiveThirtyEight has a lovely (but not-yet-updated, so keep your eye on it today) page showing how “on track” each candidate is to winning the nomination. If you’re terrified of a Trump win, the NYT also has an interactive tool for putting together scenarios in which Rubio beats Trump. The next primaries will be held on March 5th.
In Virginia, 64.30% of Democratic voters went with Clinton (61 delegates for her, 32 for Sanders). Republicans split 34.82% for Trump, 31.98% for Rubio, 16.71% for Cruz, 9.44% for Kasich, and 5.88% for Carson. That’s a respective delegate breakdown of: 17, 16, 8, 5, and 3.
In Richmond proper, Clinton won with 60%, while Rubio dominated with 46%. You definitely need to check out these ultra-interesting maps from the Virginia Public Access Project (see featured image above). Rubio dominated the northern part of the city, while Trump took the southern part (Cruz claimed one precinct in the Northside that only had 19 voters). I’ll also link to this map of percentage of Richmonders with no high school diploma (PDF). On the Democratic side of things the map is just as interesting with a strong Clinton doughnut surrounding a Sanders doughnut hole right in the middle of the city (basically covering the route of the BRT).
In non-primary news, the swanky Rice House has been sold to private owners. The Science Museum Foundation owned the house previously and will now use the cash to fund an endowment for museum programs.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, Style Weekly’s Edwin Slipek advocates for cutting down more trees on Broad Street in this thoughtful criticism of the Maggie Walker statue and plaza design. Dude’s gonna need to enter the witness protection program!

- Spiders gave one away to Dayton, losing by one at home, 84-85.
- #4 Virginia held on to beat Clemson, 64-57, in their penultimate game of the regular season.
- Rams welcome Davidson to the Stu for the very last home game of the regular season! If you don’t have a ticket you can watch on CBSSN at 7:00 PM.
- Hokies host Pittsburgh tonight at 7:00 PM, and you can watch on ESPNU.

For idealists such as Berners-Lee, the fact that the net has become an exhausting place to spend time is an affront to its founding values. Technology was supposed to make the world a better place, not a bitchier one. And for the big corporate players – Twitter, Instagram, online publishers and other businesses reliant on us spending more and more time online – it’s a genuine commercial threat. Few users and fewer advertisers enjoy hanging out in a room full of furious people spoiling for a fight.
