Good morning, RVA! It’s 45 °F, and today’s high will find its home among the mid-60s. Unfortunately, a serious chance of showers throughout the day may rain on your parade. If you are planning a literal parade, I hope you have procured the proper permits.

Tomorrow: cold. Like, no-joke, highs-in-the-30s cold.

As it is my sacred duty to bring you each and every piece of doughnut news, here is a long piece in the RTD summarizing RVA’s doughnut options. Not much new info in there for the doughnut faithful, of which I assume you are, but it’s a good primer if you’ve just moved to town.

Today’s very-Richmond headline, this one from BizSense: “Woodworkers kick-start speaker brand online.”

Vox has an in-depth explainer, as they do, about Jon Gruber, Obamacare, and the pending King v. Burwell Supreme Court case. As a regular-type dude who’s about to log on to Healthcare.gov this week and see what there is to see, this does not inspire a lot of confidence. Has a politician ever met a real human whose life is affected by their loud, political machinations? Political folks: stop treating governance like sports–some of us have real work to do.

• Rams dispatched Tennessee, 85-69, despite losing starting point guard JeQuan Lewis to a nasty head injury. Lewis remains questionable for Tuesday’s game against Toledo.
• Spiders easily knocked off Radford 64-46.
• Hokies (roundball) gave Buzz Williams his first win at Virginia Tech, downing Maryland Eastern Shore 71-46.
• Wahoos (roundball) utterly dominated Norfolk State, 67-39. Wow.
• Hokies (oblate spheroid) pulled off their second road win over a ranked team, beating Duke 17-16.
• Washington lost embarrassingly to the 2-8 Bucs.
• Caps fell to the Blues, 1-4.

Almost Everyone In Ferguson Thinks Officer Darren Wilson Will Get Off

This piece on the citizens of Ferguson preparing for war, basically, ahead of the Grand Jury decision of whether or not to indict Darren Wilson terrifies me.

The Missouri Highway Patrol has bought more shields and equipment, St. Louis metro police has spent nearly $100,000 on riot gear and repairs to damaged police vehicles, and St. Louis city police recently spent $325,000 upgrading helmets, sticks, and other “civil disobedience equipment,” Police Chief Sam Dotson told the Associated Press.

“We want the public to know that we are fully committed to preventing law breakers from threatening public safety,” St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said at the news conference with Nixon.

“These measures are not being taken because we expect problems,” said Nixon, who nonetheless said that he was prepared to call on the National Guard in the event of what he called an “uprising.”

“To all Missourians, to people around the country and around the world, we are going to keep this region safe,” Nixon said. “As I’ve said before: Violence will not be tolerated.”
