Good morning, RVA! It’s 79 °F, today’s high will hit around 90, and the humidity will fall steadily throughout the afternoon taking the rest of the week’s temperatures with it. The next couple of days have some serious beautiful-day potential.

The RTD has a long and depressing article about the lack of plans to expand bus routes into Richmond’s surrounding counties. A sobering quote: “Along the seven main roads that stretch from Richmond into neighboring counties, nearly 128,000 jobs are outside the reach of GRTC, according to figures compiled by the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission. Expanding routes along just those corridors would roughly double the number of jobs accessible by bus.”

The Richmond Kickers face Crystal Palace F.C. from the English Premiere League tonight at 7:00 PM in City Stadium. Premiere League is England’s top soccer league and, if you’re not a soccer fan, features all teams you’ve ever heard of like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United. This year Crystal Palace pulled off a win against powerhouse Chelsea and came from behind for a 3-3 draw against (Penny Lane favorite) Liverpool. This is match is a Big Deal and great way to keep riding those World Cup soccer vibes.

Writing for Style Weekly, Venture Richmond General Counsel John Bates has a pro-Shockoe Stadium piece–if you can stomach more stadium chat. When’s the baseball stadium development off season? Or is it like hockey, which they seem to play year round?

Sports!

  • Squirrels finished the series with Erie on a three-game slide. They limp home to take on Harrisburg tonight at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available online.
  • Kickers topped the Harrisburg City Islanders, 2-1. They take on the aforementioned Big Deal Crystal Palace F.C. tonight. Tickets are $30 and available online.
  • Nats went 2-1 against the Reds, face the Marlins tonight at 7:10 PM.

Quick Guide to Marvel’s Female Solo Titles and 15 Female Lead Characters

New or returning to Marvel comics, or have a friend who is? Here’s the Cliffs Notes on Marvel’s female-led solo titles and 15 lead female characters RIGHT NOW in August 2014.

I can personally vouch for the first volume of Captain Marvel! It’s a great place to jump in to comics–especially if the thought of busty helpless women in spandex and half tops makes you want to vom.
