Good morning, RVA! It’s 66 °F, and this week is weather Groundhog Day in Richmond. So put your little hand in mine as we experience highs in the low 90s, a mostly sunny sky, and a chance for rain later tonight.

Virginia’s Attorney General Mark Herring has decided to run for his same office again rather than seek the Big Comfy Chair (which is what I’m now calling it when you’re the governor). This has all sorts of electoral implications that I’ll let Markus Schmidt at the RTD tell you about.

Remember the old Ellwood Thompson’s Cafe that sat in the current Burger Bach spot in Carytown? Do you feel ennui thinking about it? No more friend! Yesterday, ET opened the Beet Cafe, which despite being named after a gross dirt-tasting vegetable, seems like the perfect place to remember all the great times you had at the old cafe. Karri Peifer at the RTD has some more details.

Here are the three most badass sentences you will read about local news today, from WTVR: “‘Is anyone in there? Please let me know, I’m here to help.’ She said she backed away from the vehicle moments before it exploded and debris started flying in her direction.”

Cornell West is in town today to kick off the Race, Citizenship, and Memory in the South speaker series at VCU. His keynote is free and open to the public tonight at 6:00 PM in the Siegel Center. I imagine if you want to get a seat, you should get there early.

Looks like the president has the votes he needs in Congress to get his Iran deal passed.

Yesterday, Miley Cyrus became the most recent mega famous artist to drop a surprise, no-promotion album–and this one, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, you can stream for free. The new album, which is a collaboration with some of the dudes from the Flaming Lips, is so super different than her previous album Bangerz.

Sports!

The long and arduous offseason ends and the 2015 college football season begins today! Unfortunately the set of games to choose from is not the best, so you’re probably looking at #2 TCU at Minnesota on ESPN at 9:00 PM as the game of choice tonight.

• Squirrels picked up a win last night against Harrisburg, 3-2. Tonight they’ll finish that series and then tomorrow return to Richmomd for their final regular-season home stand of 2015!
• The Nats did not achieve the statistical oddity of losing all three games in the series against the Cardinals by a score of 5-8. In fact, last night they won 4-3! Tonight, at 7:05 PM, a new series with the Braves begins.

It’s a new venture by [notable local restaurateur], the owner of [famous upscale bar], [spin-off of famous upscale bar], and [spin-off of the spin-off] – so you know it’s going to be good. The bar will feature inventive cocktails with a local twist, including hand-made [ingredient] from [local boutique food business]. There will also be a limited food menu of “small bites”, including such delights as [unexpected meat] sliders and Sriracha [something].

I know I'm a few days late since technically it isn't Virginia Craft Beer month anymore, but I had been meaning to post a shot from the James River Steam Brewery caves since it's one of Richmond's oldest breweries. I've posted this shot before in various edits but wanted to share again. Thanks @argon_annihilation for taking the photo. Remnants of the beer cellars of the James River Steam Brewery which operated from 1866-1879 and was established by David G. Yuengling, Jr. (whose dad started @yuenglingbeer). The building burned down in 1891 and all that remains are the underground cellars that were used for storage and the lagering process.
