Good morning RVA: watch out for mid-morning thunderstorms

Dress for wet weather and cancel your pleasant, mid-morning stroll: thunderstorms are rolling through the area.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 62 °F, which, honestly, seems excessive. We’ve got a narrow band of thunderstorms moving through the region that’s expected to hit sometime before/around 12:00 PM. Suit up for wet weather, and be careful on your lunch break–we’re expecting some strong winds.

As for the roads, VDOT is doing a little bridge work on I-95 around the northern side of the city: the north right lane and shoulder are closed. Expect delays.

Olympics watch

Team USA (well, Maddie Bowman in particular) picked up a gold medal in the women’s skiing halfpipe, and the women’s hockey team won silver as they fell to Canada in the finals. No Americans medaled in singles figure skating.

But all is not lost! Team USA is in first pace with 25 total medals and eight gold medals (only Norway has more golds with 10), ahead of Russia (23) and Netherlands (22).

Today’s medal events include: men’s curling, women’s ski cross, women’s 4 x 6k biathlon, women’s slalom, men’s 500m short track, women’s 1000m short track, and men’s 5000m short track.

The Landmark Theater, once know as The Mosque, is now, as of today, known as the Altria Theater.

Yesterday, a cyclist was struck by an SUV at Broad and Mulberry. The victim’s injuries were described as non life threatening, but the incident has Richmonders wondering about the safety of their streets.

The Washington Wizards traded VCU basketball legend Eric Maynor to the Sixers. This is Maynor’s fifth NBA squad.

Speaking of VCU basketball, the Rams take on UMass tonight at 7:00 PM on ESPN2. The Richmond Spiders host La Salle this Saturday at 4:00 PM on the CBS Sports Network.
