Good Morning, RVA: The state of this morning’s coffee is strong

Good morning, RVA! It’s 27 °F, and today’s looking mighty cold, sunny, and windy. Temperatures will hop above freezing for a bit late afternoon, but other than that it’s space-heater weather as far as the eye can see.

Last night President Obama gave his eighth and final State of the Union Address, and I thought it was…just OK. Not that it matters what I think! In fact, you can read the whole thing for yourself right here and have your own dang opinions. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley gave the republican response, and you can read that here.
Today, at 12:00 PM, the General Assembly will convene to begin their 2016 session! There are many, many bills that will work their way through our centuries-old process. Some could impact your life while some are more esoteric. We’ll be following just what those guys and gals are up to throughout the legislative season–which lasts through the middle of March.
It’s day three of the coverage of possible mayoral improprieties related to hiring folks from his church and then those folks spending city time on church-related projects. Day three is officially when you’re allowed to apply the -gate suffix to the controversy, so if you’ve got suggestions other than “Churchgate”, let me know. Today’s update includes these two facts: The RTD submitted some FOIA requests which turned up some additional emails, which got the mayor to release a statement calling out the newspaper (PDF). Oh! And then you need to read this anonymous RTD editorial which 1) makes an Augean Stables joke and 2) says the mayor does not have a “central nervous system worth protecting”. A real and true quote! So much drama in the LBC!

Sports!
The St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers are both leaving their respective hometowns to move to Los Angeles. I imagine many Ram and Charger fans are very unhappy about this.
- Rams and one of the other A-10 Rams (Fordham) face off tonight in the Stu at 7:00 PM.
- Spiders welcome La Salle to the Robins Center tonight at 7:00 PM–you can watch on CBS 6.3.
- #13 Wahoos picked up a big win, 66-58, over #8 Miami last night.
- Hokies host Wake Forest tonight at 9:00 PM.

David Chang is a real and famous chef!
It pisses me off that Asian food has to be cheaper. Why? Not one person has given me a reason why. All the ingredients that we’re getting are top quality, and just as expensive as any other restaurant. Look at the version of cacio e pepe we’re serving here. The only expensive ingredient we’re not using is parmesan–and guess what parmesan is? MSG. We’re replacing the parmesan with our own fermented chickpea paste that took us six to nine months to make. So fuck you guys. I’m not getting on the phone and ordering a wheel of parmesan. Don’t tell me that I can’t charge like Italian food.
