Good morning RVA: Sunny, warm, and awesome

Despite Daylight Saving Time and the whole “losing an hour of sleep” thing, today look’s like it’ll be pretty awesome.

Good morning, RVA! If you thought yesterday was nice, you’re gonna love today. Sure it’s only 34 °F out right now, but, man, this afternoon’s temperatures are gonna hit the mid-60s! You’ll want to drink a beer on a patio–it’ll still be too cold to do so, but you’ll want to anyway. Dress in layers, so when today’s springiness hits, you don’t feel like a sweaty moron in your wool sweater!

As of this moment, your morning commute looks totally fine. However, remain vigilant! Accidents spike the Monday after the start of Daylight Saving Time as drivers are extra sleepy and rage-filled.

City Council meets tonight, and you can check out the agenda here (PDF). Pretty standard stuff this week. One item of interest on the regular agenda: Resolution 2013-R252 (PDF) which would switch Council from their current twice-a-month schedule to meeting on only the second Monday of the month. The fourth Monday of the month would be “reserved for special meetings for emergency purposes only.”

The Atlantic 10 men’s basketball regular season is now over, and the bracket (PDF) for this weekend’s A-10 Tournament in Brooklyn is out. The Rams are the #2 seed and will face the winner of #7 Richmond and #10 Duquesne (Thursday, March 13th at 6:30 PM) on Friday March 14th at 6:30 PM.

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit last night off the coast of northern California. So far no damage or injuries reported.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is still missing this morning.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey debuted last night on FOX. Presented by Neil deGrasse Tyson, it’s a follow-up to Carl Sagan’s (totally awesome) show of the same name. If you missed it, the episode airs again this evening on the National Geographic Channel at 10:00 PM.

Maryland snapped UVA’s 13-game winning streak in the Cav’s final regular-season game. In other college basketball news, Wichita State finished their season undefeated and an incredible 34-0.
