Good Morning, RVA: Sunny days, keepin’ the clouds away

Good morning, RVA! It’s 62 °F, and today’s hourly forecast is a single-file line of a trillion suns! When paired with those mostly sunny skies, highs in the low-70s sound pretty nice.

Michael Paul Williams at the RTD has a super depressing and embarrassing account of the formal and informal ways the state government went about segregating Richmond. Let’s all get behind his final two sentences: “Public policy and private-sector practices created [Richmond’s] segregated terrain. This intended outcome can be undone only by intentional actions.”

The city (once again?) tried to push a rushed and incomplete plan on the Planning Commission, but the ol’ PC would have none of that mess! Graham Moomaw and Katy Burnell Evans have the details of the now-postponed renovations to Kanawha Plaza.

In media news: Ned Oliver has left Style Weekly and will join the Richmond Times-Dispatch tomorrow covering Hanover County. Remember that time Oliver interviewed the mayor while riding a bike? Maybe one of my favorite things about the mayor ever published.

Blue Bell has issued a voluntary recall of all of its products after additional tests for listeria came back positive. This is a bummer for my household, as a gallon of Blue Bell is my preferred Secret Food that I eat after the kid goes to bed.

There’s No Mayonnaise Like My Mayonnaise

“There is nothing more personal than mayonnaise,” said Robin Fisher, who works in accounts payable here at the Duke’s mayonnaise plant, where a million pounds of oil and 70,000 pounds of egg yolks a day are emulsified into several forms of mayonnaise. “People want their coffee a certain way,” she said, “and they want their mayonnaise a certain way.”

It’s cute that people think Miracle Whip counts as mayonnaise.
