Good Morning, RVA: So political

Today is filled with political news—I can’t help it! It’s the week before elections!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 62 °F. Highs today will hit the low-70s, but there’s a persistent chance of thunderstorms stretching into tomorrow. Warmish but Sodden: The Richmond Story.

The RTD’s editorial board has released its endorsements for next week’s elections. It’s mostly a lament over how, outside the 10th Senate District, most of the races are uncontested or uncompetitive. You can check who’s on your ballot right here and get ready for Tuesday.

If you live in Chesterfield and Henrico and don’t hate bikes, the Sports Backers have put together this interactive map/questionnaire about how your candidates for Board of Supervisors feel about the future of cycling in the counties. With Chesterfield’s Big Bike Plan™ on the horizon, this is probably something county voters will want to click around on.

BEES! But more importantly, a local program designed to help honey bees.

Style Weekly has this odd and interesting article about Satanism in Richmond in the 1980s as reported by Style Weekly in the 1980s. Plans within plans!

The Senate passed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing Act, which is supposed to protect folks’ data from evildoers but may just make it easier for the government to surveil you. Who’s an evildoer now, Government?!

There’s another, 10-person Republican debate tonight at 8:00 PM on CNBC–I think you’ll need a cable subscription to watch, though.

Sports!

  • The Royals beat the Mets 5-4 in Game 1 of the World Series. It took 14 innings! Game 2 is tonight at 8:07 PM.
  • D.C. United takes on New England in the first round of the MLS Playoffs tonight at 7:30 PM.

This morning’s longread

How did Boba Fett become such a big Star Wars character?

Boba Fett was only a side character who appeared only in two the original Star War movies. How did he get such a big following? And how did he get so much depth that we know he is more than just a bounty hunter?

There’s a George Lucas quote in there about how he considered adding in a new shot where Boba Fett climbs out of the Sarlacc pit but he thought that’d be going too far.
