Good Morning, RVA: Rain.

Gardens rejoice, I guess!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 63 °F, and, at some point today, it will rain. There’s even a good chance that once it starts raining, it won’t stop until tomorrow–so dig out your umbrellas, galoshes, rain suits, and sad faces.

Katy Burnell Evans has coverage of last night’s City Council meeting and public hearing on the budget. Standard stuff, but read to the bottom for (more) embarrassing quotes about the city’s Finance Department.

Burnell’s partner in crime on the School Board side of things, Zachary Ried, has a quick note about the school facilities report–the final draft of which was delivered (on a pallet) last night. The bad news: it’s gonna take a lot of money to fix our school facilities. The good news: at least we know what’s what and are putting together a plan. I couldn’t find a digital copy of the report (which would not need to be delivered on a pallet), if you come across it, please let me know!

SpaceX will attempt to launch a rocket into space and then land it on a floating barge today at 4:10 PM, pending weather. Because we live in the future, you can live stream this fantastical event!

I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep up with all of these presidential announcements, but Senator Marco Rubio announced his bid yesterday. He lacks a snazzy logo, but does dot the “i” in his last name with a tiny continental United States.

Sports!

  • Nats fell to the Red Sox, 4-9, continue the series tonight at 6:05 PM.
  • Squirrels dominated Altoona in the first game of the series, 10-3. Assuming the rain doesn’t ruin everything, they’ll play again tonight at 6:35 PM. Tickets are available online.

Could You Pass The FBI’s Fitness Test?

For years, all new agents have been required to pass rigorous physical assessments. But the FBI stopped making physical testing mandatory for established agents in 1999. According to FBI officials quoted by the New York Times, after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the agency’s mission shifted to fighting terrorism — a job that often requires long desk hours — and fitness became less of a priority.

Don’t worry, “hostage rescue teams” have stricter fitness requirements.
