Good Morning, RVA: Nope.

Luckily, today’s bitter cold gives way to…more snow? What.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 3 °F, which is totally unacceptable. Today’s forecast is basically you turning into a solid block of ice throughout the day with an additional chance of shattering into a billion pieces like the T-1000 in Terminator 2.

If you survive today’s brutal cold, you also might have the exciting opportunity to endure more snow on Saturday morning. How much snow (if any)? Only the Shadow knows.

Remember yesterday’s secret, emergency School Board meeting? The one that was about a “personnel issue?” Well, Richmond Public Schools superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden is one of four finalists for the superintendent job in Boston. Changing leadership in the midst the current upheaval is not an awesome prospect. This whole thing feels so much like the end-of-season coaching carousel where successful mid-major schools hope and pray that their coaches stick around–except about the future of our city, not about sports.

It’s been a while since we had a newsworthy update to the Stone Brewing Co. situation. The RTD’s Graham Moomaw says the deal may not be as done as we thought and may hinge on Council giving a more concrete vote of support to the restaurant portion of the project.

Style Weekly’s Ned Oliver has a short piece about how slushy piles of snow help with urban planning.

A federal judge will sentence former Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell today. Which, I think, brings an end to this Rolex-laden, Ferrari-filled drama.

North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un debuted a new haircut — and a new … eyebrowcut? — at a politburo meeting on Wednesday. The style is a variation on Kim’s signature shaved sides, but with the top now sculpted into a high, wedge-shaped pompadour that sits atop Kim’s head like a hat, or perhaps a small, dormant woodland creature.”

The problem with home-cooked meals

Duuuuuuuh. It’s nice to see an article about how a home-cooked meal every night just isn’t an option (and is a ton of freaking work) for a lot of families.

The three researchers — Sarah Bowen, Sinikka Elliot and Joselyn Bretton — spent hundreds of hours interviewing and observing how moms feed their families. And they found that, while many enjoyed cooking, the time pressures and desire to please all family members made home-cooked meals a tiring, stressful experience.
