Good Morning, RVA: More violence, don’t be fooled, so long ramen, and electric cars
Alert! We could see some serious rain today.
Good morning, RVA! It’s 68 °F, and, so far, we’ve avoided any thunderstorms. Keep your eye on the sky, though, because a weather system is approaching and bringing rain and wind with it. Once it rolls through town it should leave us with a fairly pleasant weekend.

Yesterday afternoon Chad P. Dermyer, a Virginia State Police trooper, was shot and killed at the Greyhound bus station on Boulevard. The investigation is ongoing, but you can read the Virginia State Police’s release on the shooting. This is Richmond’s 17th murder of 2016.
It is April 1st. This is your friendly reminder that you need to be aware and extra skeptical of any “news” you read on the internet today. I was going to link to the origin story of April Fools’ Day on Wikipedia, but can you even trust that this morning?! Think before you retweet y’all.
This, however, is not an April Fools’ joke: Joe Morrissey has announced that he is running for mayor. The list of folks who have officially submitted their paperwork and signatures now number five: Lillie Estes, Kim Franklin, Joe Morrissey, Michelle Mosby, and Bruce Tyler.
Oh no dudes, Karri Peifer reports that Shoryuken Ramen will close their doors come May. This seriously bums me out; a couple months ago, after a VCU basketball game, I had a bowl of ramen there that I’m still thinking about. So what’s next for 900 W. Franklin? Who’s going to roll up their sleeves and set up shop in a spot that now definitely feels restaurant-cursed?
Tesla announced their Model 3 yesterday, and The Verge has everything you need to know. I will summarize: Dang! A fully-electric car for normal people that starts at $35,000. Additionally, these will most likely be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, which suddenly makes owning an electric vehicle seem within the realm of possibility for a lot of folks. For just $1,000 you can preorder yours today.
Meanwhile, down at the DMV, the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association and Tesla duked it out for eight hours over whether or not the later should be allowed to set up a second store in Virginia (out on W. Broad Street).
I’m really into this idea of a 30-day creative sprint especially when combined with local-author and skull aficionado Noah Scalin’s creativity journal. Time to make April awesome!
