Good Morning, RVA: Mayors Gone Wild, beer, potholes, recycling, and feeling some Berns

Nice weather today, but you can still totally be a grump about it.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 33 °F, and nothing in my yard froze overnight. Take that, hopefully final cold snap of the year! Today expect similar weather to the recent past: Highs in the low 60s, sunshine, and wind.

The forecast for this weekend’s Monument 10k has almost crossed over into “pretty OK!” territory.

Tonight, Doug Wilder will host Doug Wilder’s Wild Mayoral Forum (not its real name) at 7:00 PM in VUU’s Coburn Hall (1500 N. Lombardy Street). I’ve already said it a million times, but with 69 days left until the filing deadline, I think that it is way too early to be deciding who is and who is not a legit mayoral candidate. That said, because I’m a terrible hypocrite, I’ll be there tweeting into whatever hashtag presents itself–I’m lobbying for #mayorsgonewild.

The Wall Street Journal discovered that Richmond has a lot of craft beer floating around and picked out some of the names and faces they want the rest of the world to know about. It’s an interesting but by no means exhaustive list. Congrats to those who make an appearance!

A chaser for the above story: A ton of local booze news for you to use.

The RTD reports that The Martin Agency’s former COO Beth Rilee-Kelley has been promoted to president. Rilee-Kelley replaces Mike Hughes who died of cancer in 2013.

Developer John Gregory has made his own Google map of potholes in Manchester, says Style Weekly’s Leah Small. I am into this level of civic engagement! But also I wish he’d added the potholes to SeeClickFix, which exists for this sort of thing. Anything we can do to take some of the burden off of the Department of Public Works seems like a good idea to me.

This piece on recycling by Mariane Matera, titled “I am Red Thursday,” gets 10,000 thumbs up. An article about recycling that will make you laugh! This is not a thing I knew was possible! Just kidding, recycling’s probably the funniest thing we ever write about.

Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz walked away with Wisconsin primary wins last night. You can see the full results and number of delegates awarded over on the NYT.

Related! It looks like Scott’s Addition is starting to feel the double Bern.

Parenting Tips from Odin, Son of Bor, King of Asgard and Protector of the Nine Realms

To appreciate this piece you must be familiar with: Parenting, mommyblogs, Marvel comics, and listicles. For the three of you out there, enjoy!

For example, just last Thorsday while taking a stroll on the Bifrost, Heimdall told me about a mommyblogger in Midgard asking if I’d contribute a guest post about The Top Three Things All-Seeing Fathers Do To Raise Successful Heirs. Well, I will tell you, mortal. Because I am Odin, son of Bor, King of Asgard, Protector of the Nine Realms and as your King I command you to pay attention to my listicle because my advice is significantly more Godlier than a so-called Tiger Mother who doesn’t know the first thing about honorable battle.
