Good morning, RVA! It’s 59 °F, and we totally avoided yesterday’s evening rain for the most part. Today there’s no such threat of precipitation, just mostly clear skies and highs in the mid-80s. Enjoy it and get the most out of it, because there’s a weather thing happening that may put a damper on the weekend. But maybe we’ll avoid that too!

Richmonder Rayvon Owen was eliminated from American Idol last night. I’m sure he’ll end up with some sort of record deal somewhere though, so you don’t need to feel too, too sad.

How awesome is this: Art, gardens, and kids in Mosby Court! I just want to, like, give them all of my money and watch them do brilliant and amazing things. Plus, judging by the pics on their Facebook, they’re having way more success with their tomatoes than I am.

Vincent Simone, writing for Richmond Magazine, profiles super interesting entomologist Art Evans. Bug people are almost as fascinating as the bugs they study, and they’re way less likely to crawl into your ears where they will soon lay their eggs.

Vox breaks down this Jade Helm 15 business–you know, the thing about how America is putting Texas under martial law. Come on Texas! We wouldn’t have to attack you with our federal military so much if you didn’t believe such crazy things!

Sports!

• That’s three in a row for the Squirrels! They close out the series with Altoona at 10:30 AM this morning.
• Bryce Harper hit three home runs for the Nats in yesterday’s 7-5 win over the Marlins.
• Caps are now 3-1 in the series against the Rangers after last night’s 2-1 victory. Washington travels to New York on Friday for what could be the final game of the series.

A Letter To Sheryl Sandberg

I write from a position of knowing, which makes me unspeakably sad for you. My own husband, Matthew Lyon, died in 2002, while on a business trip. He died suddenly, on a treadmill in the gym of a Seattle hotel. He was 45. Our daughter was eight.

Nobody plans for this. We would all go insane if we did. Because we live life as if we have time.
