Good Morning, RVA: Impending great weather

Look out! We’ve got some great weather headed our way (I think).

Good morning, RVA! It’s 65 °F, and today has a good chance at being awesome: highs might crack 80 and clouds should burn off as the day goes by. Fog will imperil your morning commute, so take it easy ghost rider.

Multiple media sources are reporting that “the man suspected of abducting 18-year-old Hannah Graham from the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month is forensically linked to the 2009 disappearance of 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.”

At their annual retreat, City Council informally discussed the idea of increasing pay for council members to a true, full-time salary. The position now pays $25,000 which limits the pool of candidates (to folks who can afford to live of off $25k) and assumes the job of running the city is a part-time one.

RVANews (that’s us!) chatted with Veterans Cab about the affect Uber has had on business (spoiler: none). Definitely worth a read if you’re unaware of the heavy regulations facing taxi companies–regulations that Uber sidesteps on the way to cheaper prices.

StyleWeekly sent Ned Oliver to the State Fair to eat a bunch of crappy food, and the result is one of my favorite bits of food writing this September. On the deep-fried ham biscuit he says, “The simplicity (only two ingredients) makes it almost like eating real food.” High praise for fair food.

FYI, the VCU Quidditch team will host UVA and UR this weekend at Petronius Park.

Whoadang, this account of everything that went wrong to allow some dude to break into the White House is embarrassing.

This morning’s longread

I snuggled with a stranger using new app Cuddlr, and my fellow cuddlee had a gun

Guys, the world is so super weird that sometimes I can’t even handle it.

He was a little horrified to hear I had gone straight to someone’s house, and told me he thought it was “common sense” that you should meet up and cuddle in a public place a few different times before going home with someone. “I was trying to not be an overbearing parent, but I think I need to be a little more of a guiding hand,” Williams said. I had contemplated a cuddle in the park but the only thing more awkward than the idea of spooning with a stranger was the idea of spooning with a stranger in front of a whole bunch of other strangers.
