Good morning, RVA! It’s 53 °F. Today, temperatures will be much cooler than yesterday–just barely cracking 60 °F. But with no chance of rain and few clouds it should make for a beautiful (but possibly windy) Friday. Just make sure you wear socks and sleeves.

If you’ve been wondering how the former Mizzou president could have handled things differently and maybe still have kept his job, wonder no longer and read this account of VCU president Michael Rao’s interaction with Black students yesterday. Turns out the secret solution was to treat students like actual humans. Meanwhile, Mark Holmberg at WTVR tells Black students–despite the lack of Black teachers and administrators in their current college experience–that they should just “work really hard” and then, in a dozen years, come back to VCU to solve the problem. Listen. It is not the responsibility of the students to make VCU a more diverse university. If the university values diversity among its admin and faculty, they will work hard to improve it. It’s as straightforward as that.
Stroops, the hot dog place birthed from the culinary wizards at Dutch & Co., opens today in Church Hill. Go look at that menu, just look at it. Some one please, please send me a picture of an RVA dog!
Don’t forget about InLight, which kicks off tonight at 7:00 PM and lasts through tomorrow! It should be beautiful and cool, just like yourself.
Oh! While you’re not forgetting about stuff: The Marathon is tomorrow. Roads will be closed. Drivers will be extra enraged. Runners will somehow look sweaty and cold at the same time. I will be under a blanket in my house if you need me, but that’s where I am every Saturday morning.
New One Direction and Justin Bieber albums are out, if either of those are your thing.

The average American produces more than four pounds of trash and recyclables per day, about 1,500 pounds per year. In my first year of living trash- and recycling-free, I produced a little more than seven and a half pounds of waste, including receipts and miscellaneous paper, a couple of Ruffles chips bags and a few straws, stickers off fruit, glass milk-bottle caps, a broken Pyrex dish, a broken milk bottle, one beer bottle and one plastic bottle. In year two, I made it down to six pounds — about 0.4 percent of the American average.
