Good morning, RVA: Here comes the spring

It’s the first true day of spring and you will not be disappointed.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 42 °F right now, and it’s not cloudy, windy, rainy, or icy. This, the first day of spring (which technically begins at 12:57 PM), seems kind of a lot like…spring! Miracle of miracles! Highs today could reach in to the 60s, and man, wait until you see the forecast for this weekend–it’s going to be great!

The city’s plan to lease Monroe Park to the non-profit Monroe Park Conservancy for $1 per year for the next 30 years cleared another legislative hurdle and will head before Council next week.

John and Sherry Petersik, Richmonders and proprietors of Young House Love, have a line of decorative wall hooks and hangings debuting at Target in the next couple of weeks–but you can already but them online. A greater digital success story may not exist, as the Petersiks have gone from bloggers to home-design kingpins in just a couple of years.

Yesterday, the Richmond Ballet announced that they will perform at the 15th Annual ‘Meet in Beijing’ Arts Festival in May 2015. This will be the ballet’s first trip to China and follows their 2012 debut in London.

Malaysia Flight 370 remains missing. While satellite imagery discovered several large objects floating in the Indian Ocean, neither jets nor boats could find the objects.

The NCAA Tournament starts in earnest today at 12:00 PM when #11 Dayton takes on #6 Ohio State. Prepare for productivity to plummet! March Madness really is the most wonderful time of the year.

My 2 cents on Sports Marketing and what I learned from SMU Basketball this week

No team is going to go undefeated every year. You have to make sure that even during games that don’t go the way of the home team that your fans feel like you are doing all you can to entertain them. At the Mavs we spend a small fortune on entertaining videos and in game entertainment. From the Mavs Maniaacs to special half time shows, to Seats for Soldiers, we want our Mavs games to be special occasions. We NEVER cut corners on in game entertainment. In fact we probably spend more on in game video and entertainment than the rest of the NBA combined.

If you have a limited budget and the choice is between fun or anything else, choose fun every time.
