Good Morning, RVA: Driver’s Ed

VCU is shutting down Broad St today and people keep getting in the wrong cars. Plus, it’s Richmond Schools vs. Mayor Jones over school money.

Good morning, RVA! Another glorious dreary morning! It’s 72°F and there’s a chance of scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. You might want to stay inside today.

Mayor Dwight Jones took issue with the fact that Richmond Public Schools needs $35 million for maintenance issues, saying the city has bigger school needs than leaky roofs and faulty air conditioners. He calls it a “distraction” from the bigger issues the city is facing. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has more.

We are so close to getting Stone Brewing Company to Richmond! The San Diego-based beer company confirmed that Richmond is one of three finalists (the other two being Norfolk and Columbus, Ohio). Stone Brewing, just pick us already. We like beer.

Now that Uber and Lyft are now available in RVA, we have a lot more options for getting around. Of course, that means problems as well. Right now, people are getting into random strangers’ cars because they think it’s an Uber and, naturally, Twitter blows up and the results are hilarious.

Speaking of driving, if you haven’t experienced it yet, VCU students are back and causing traffic nightmares! And today, take note that VCU will be holding its annual Freshman Spirit Walk on Broad Street, so the street between Laurel and Harrison will be closed to traffic. At 5 p.m. Because VCU obviously does not understand things like rush hour. Richmond.com’s Karri Peifer is not a fan.
