Good Morning, RVA: Different day, same weather

Good morning, RVA! It’s 68 °F, and the weather sameness continues. The week closes out with highs in the upper-80s and lower-90s, plenty of humidity, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms–sound familiar? Saturday follows suit, Sunday may have a bit more rain.

Water cooler

Our hometown hero Tejas Muthusamy finished 7th in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, missing on the word tartarean. The last word he spelled properly was billiken, which should be gimme for any Richmonder and VCU fan as it’s the St. Louis mascot. This is why you gotta follow sports, y’all.

The GRTC will finish the fleetwide installation of new fare boxes this weekend. The new boxes still only accept cash, coins, and Go Cards, but are the first step towards more convenient payment methods. Coming this summer: a mobile app that’ll let you pay and will function as your pass. The future is now!

You guys, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a Stone Brewing Co. update. Ned Oliver at the RTD has a few details on some changes to the brewery plan that all seem pretty OK to me.

Amidst all the crazy soccer news, there’s this bit about EA’s FIFA 16 allowing players to play as the national womens teams.

Speaking of, FIFA will hold a presidential election today, and yet-to-be-charged Sepp Blatter is expected to win. The New York Times has a good summary of what’s going down, plus a super helpful chart of who’s been arrested and their roles in the FIFA organization.

Sports!

Looks like charges against Mo Alie-Cox will be dropped and Terry Larrier will transfer to UConn.

• Kickers face the New York Red Bulls II tomorrow at 7:00 PM in City Stadium. Get your tickets now!
• Nats start a series with the Reds tonight at 7:10 PM that runs through the weekend.

And Onneken wanted to do it gonzo style: Reveal the corruption of the diet research-media complex by taking part.

How easy is it to get millions of folks to believe fake science? Turns out super easy. However, as the publisher of a content-driven internet website, I certainly can relate to that feeling of seeing a juicy press release land in your inbox on a day when you’ve got a couple of holes to fill in your content calendar.
